What’s Really In The Box?

You see the box every day as you grab clothes from your closet. In the lower left corner of your eye, there it is. A quick flash of recognition and the memories get quietly rattled.

The box has been there for several years now. You've moved it from one side of the closet to the other. Once, you covered it with a towel to make it look nicer. Less like a box. It worked for a while, and then it started quietly rattling again.

Why is this box so hard to deal with?

It's not the stuff inside that rattles you or keeps you attached. It's what the contents represent that carries the weight and will take some time and energy to sort through.

For women in midlife, stuff and clutter are packed with life, memories, mistakes, and magnificence. Layered within it are friends, family—those living and those gone—and relationships that helped shape who you are today.

There is more you want to do in your life, and something inside is telling you it's time to deal with the box.

As you set an intention, you begin to wonder: Is this stuff honoring me or holding me down? Holding me back or holding me up?

Honoring is light and loving.

Holding is restrictive and afraid.

As you look inside, trust yourself to know your first instinct. Trust may arrive as a whisper at first, but it grows. You are patient that way with others.

Compassion suddenly washes over you, and it makes your eyes water a little.

This place of intention, loving self-compassion, and trust is where the work begins.

The memory does not live in the item. You carry it with you. The possibility does not live in the box. It lives within you. The version of yourself you are afraid to release is already becoming someone new.

That is the real work of compassionate decluttering.

I invite you to take the quiz here. Think of it as a mirror—a reflection, not a diagnosis. It offers insight into the patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

When you understand your pattern, the whole thing gets a little easier.

You don’t have to do this alone.

If any part of this feels familiar, I would love to offer you a gentle place to begin.

The first two chapters of my book are available free.

No presh. You decide.
