What She Said at the End of Our First Call

She arrived at our first conversation a little uncertain.

A little guarded.

Not completely sure what she was signing up for.

She apologized more than once for talking so much.

"I don't even know where to begin," she said.

I smiled. "You already have."

Like so many women in midlife, she thought she was calling because of the clutter.

  • The piles.

  • The unfinished projects.

  • The rooms she avoided.

The quiet guilt she carried every time she walked through her home.

As we talked, I didn't ask her what she needed to organize first.

Instead, I became curious about her.

What had brought her here?

What felt heavy?

What did she miss about herself?

I noticed her eyes looking up to the ceiling. In search of her memory. Her truth.

The conversation stopped talking about why she couldn't declutter.

She started talking about the life she missed.

She told me she wanted more time outside.

More time with plants.

With animals.

With herself.

Her life without the anguish of everything being unfinished.

Her life without the anguish of everything being unfinished.

As she spoke those words out loud, the conversation changed.

The clutter was still there.

But it no longer felt like the whole story.

For the first time, she wasn't talking about what she wanted to get rid of.

She was talking about what she wanted to make room for.

That is the quiet shift I witness again and again.

Compassionate decluttering isn't just about letting go of things.

It's about reconnecting with the woman underneath the emotional clutter.

It's about remembering what matters enough to move toward it.

Near the end of our conversation, she grew quiet.

Then she smiled.

"I feel relieved."

You don’t have to do this alone.

Whenever you're ready, I'd be honored to have that first conversation with you, too.
