You may already be making the list in your head.
The dining room needs to be ready for Thanksgiving.
The guest room needs to be cleared for your daughter and her family.
The entry needs to look more welcoming.
The kitchen counters need to be found again.
The extra chairs need to come up from the basement.
The serving dishes need to come out.
And somehow, every item on the list is for somebody else.
Your family.
Your guests.
The people who will walk through the door.
For a few weeks every year, our homes can start to feel a little like a stage.
And if you're like many women I know, you've been the one setting that stage for as long as you can remember.
Making sure everyone has somewhere to sleep.
Something to eat.
A place to sit.
The towels are clean.
The sheets are changed.
The table looks beautiful.
Everyone is comfortable.
But I want to turn the list around for a minute.
What would it take to get one room ready for you first?
Before everybody comes
Not the whole house.
One room.
And not because anyone else is going to see it.
Because you live there.
What room would change something for you if it finally felt the way you wanted it to feel?
Maybe it's your bedroom.
Maybe it's the office you keep promising yourself you'll deal with.
Maybe it actually is the dining room—but not because Thanksgiving is coming.
Because you want to sit at that table again.
Maybe there are things you've kept for years that you would finally like to use instead of store.
Things that belong in the life you're living now.
I know something about that one.
This year, I have things in my cupboards that spent far too long in storage.
Things I loved enough to keep, but wasn't actually living with.
Now they're here as I create home.
They're being used.
They're part of a home that is mine.
I'm not just clearing things out to have less.
I'm assessing what was stored against who I am now.
Choosing once again what to keep and what no longer serves me.
Me and my lifestyle has changed.
I'm making room for my life now.
What do you want for yourself now?
The hardest part may not be the room
Maybe you already know which room you would choose.
And maybe just thinking about someone seeing what it looks like right now makes something tighten inside you.
I can't let anybody see that.
I need to make some progress first.
I'll call after I get it a little more under control.
But what if getting ready isn't the prerequisite for asking for help?
What if asking for help is part of how you get ready?
You don't show me the room.
You don't hold up your phone and walk me through the piles.
You don't open a single box before we begin.
But you may need to let one person into the truth of it.
Your truth.
This is the room I've been avoiding.
This is the room I don't know what to do with.
This is the room I want back.
That can be the beginning.
One room. Four weeks.
This is exactly why I created One Room Reimagined.
Not to get a room ready for company.
To help you take one room from where it is now toward a space that feels and looks like you.
We begin with what you want from the room.
How you want to use it.
How you want to feel when you're in it.
Then we look at what has made moving toward that vision difficult.
The decisions.
The emotional clutter.
The things you want to keep.
The things you're ready to consider letting go of.
And the places where you've gotten stuck trying to do all of it by yourself.
You remain the decision-maker.
I'm there to help you move through the part that has felt impossible to move through alone.
And when hands-on organizing would help bring your vision to life, a Professional Organizer can be part of that support, too.
Not somebody coming in to take over your room.
A team helping you move toward your vision for it.
Four weeks can be enough time to change a room.
But more importantly, it can be enough time to change your relationship with that room.
From the door you keep closing...
to a space you actually want to live in.
The room is still yours
Thanksgiving may be four weeks away.
Maybe people are coming.
Maybe nobody is.
Either way, your home does not exist only for the people who visit it.
You live there.
You wake up there.
You walk through those rooms every day.
You deserve to experience the home you're working so hard to create.
So before you finish the list for everybody else, maybe add one thing at the top:
One room for me.
If you already know which room that is—or even if you don't—we can talk about it.
You don't have to clean it first.
You don't have to be ready.
You don't have to decide today whether One Room Reimagined is right for you.
We can simply have a free conversation about the room and what you would love for it to become.
Four weeks is enough time to begin.
And whether anyone walks through your door this holiday season or not, the room is still yours.
